Black History Month. A highly regarded month Black people across the US use to celebrate Black excellence. As a people, we take pride in the many mainstream accomplishments taught to us in school.
Every February, we celebrate the marches, Black leaders, and struggles through slavery.
But then… Poof! March comes and our focus is turned to Easter.
We are in a daze left to never know the answer to the lingering question: “who were our ancestors before slavery?”
We have been programmed to never question our roots and never ask why.
This is a concept called the 400-year reset. It’s when oppression has programmed Black minds to never look behind the trauma of slavery to understand how to heal and create a stronger future.
It is a gaslit reality that was shaped for over 400 years that teaches us to remember the pain and not how we can build generational wealth.
If you are struggling to see it, think about it from this perspective.
We were told that slavery was the best thing that could have ever happened to us because we were primitive and captivity “civilized us”.
However, some things don’t check out.
How can a bunch of “primitive” people need oppression to grow intellectually? These same people created the very alphabet used for the main nine romantic languages, built beautifully designed buildings, and invented the means to harness electricity for the everyday person without being allowed to read or write.
Do you see the insanity?
Marcus Garvey once said that “A people without the knowledge of their past history, origins, and culture is like a tree without roots.”
Our community is a tree without roots; starved and desperate to sustain itself.
We struggle to build generational wealth because we don’t know how to go beyond this oppressive mindset.
But we don’t have to stay there.
D28 Productions created a docuseries that uses words from people who lived in our past to restore lost knowledge and strengthen the roots of our tree.
We want to invite you to join us and reclaim your throne as royalty and as we rebuild our generational wealth.
